It's time for you to wear silk pajamas, the only white blouse you need in your closet, affordable home decor shops, SOCK RECOMMENDATIONS because it's important. A really good book. AND MORE!
FIVE
Welcome and happy 2 days after Halloween to you! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and spent some time getting SpOooKy and coZy. Have a bit of a wee read if you will below:
1.SILK PAJAMAS
You know, I am 32 now which means I am saying no more to my bed time t-shirts that I’ve been wearing since I was 17. It’s time for 100% silk night sets- French ones if I am to be exact!! My current hobby is scavenging Esty, Poshmark, Depop and eBay for vintage silk pajama sets. The RealReal has some good ones too. If you’re not a fan of sleeping in silk (but you should be because it’s so good for your skin and there are actually a lot of affordable options if you dig), I hope you are at least sleeping in 100% cotton to let that skin (including your cracks and crevices) breathe!
Also this verrrry sweet and simple vintage silk cami below (I may have already bought this by the time you are reading this ooops):
Or just sleep in $3,800 Gucci pajamas. TELL ME THE REASON FOR THE PRICE.
Here are some other brands to save (you can save your searches on The RealReal): Lunya (washable silk!), Carine Gilson (expensiiiiiive but beautiful & French), Else, Le Petit Trou, Skims (they have some silk options), Sleeper, Nileta, Etam, Maison Essentiele, La Perla, Fleur Du Mal, Oseree.
This Cou Cou set below isn’t silk but it is 100% cotton and I want! I discovered this brand recently and they are 100% GOTS certified organic cotton. You can also find them in a set here.
“We founded Cou Cou to reduce the impact of our intimates. To take responsibility for the whole life cycle of our undies, we make our cou cous from 100% GOTS Certified Organic Cotton, a sustainably-sourced fabric that’s also completely compostable. By designing for longevity, promoting conscious consumption, and operating through transparency, we hope to make our most disposed-of garments a little less disposable.”
This Hanro 100% washable silk top is also amazing:
2.THE PERFECT WHITE BLOUSE
I have such a hard time finding a good white blouse. It has to be loose but also kind of fitted in all the right places but also have oversized sleeves and a crisp collar. It has to fit under sweaters both thin and chunky but also potentially be worn with a slip dress or slim vest. Wellll, I recently came across an amazing recommendation from Leandra Medine Cohen and here is THE BLOUSE. I’m putting it on my Christmas list (I already told my Mom, hi Mom) but I can just tell by the 100% cotton and the way that it lays that it’s going to be just right.
I think Everlane has a good one too. This Reformation one, a good Jcrew one (they have been stepping it up big time since Olympia Gayot was hired as head of design), Banana Republic too (the pink one!) and this Anine Bing one. Wait this Kule one too!
3.GOOD SOCKS ARE IMPORTANT
Let’s talk socks. We all wear socks so why not add a little something something to your sockwear. I now understand why socks are a good gift!! Also your feet are going to start getting cold so give them a little wool hug. Below are some of my favorite sock brands right now:
The white wool socks are sold out so you know they are good. They have classic cotton (their every day sock) as well and they are just great socks. I am currently eyeing the ribbed white ones in the first photo. They add a little European boarding school touch ya know?
Made in Italy, that’s all you need to know. They are also 100% recyclable.
“Treat yo’ feet to cloud-soft luxury. Cozy AF, our featherlight chaussettes are 3D-knit with Italy’s finest biodegradable yarn for a just-right fit. Bold, beautiful and built to last, these eco-chic statement-makers like to stay up, stand out and let your feet do the talking. Style them two ways: up for sheer, down for opaque.” No runs or holes in these guys!
A classic, go with everything sock. I like this color because it’s not the typical white and it has a little pop of the green Baggu logo.
Founded by women and responsibly sourced, these socks are specifically made for women. And they are coooooooozy.
“Our partners practice a no waste production cycle, harness solar energy and maintain small batch productions to avoid excess. Stems products use recycled cashmere and polyester when possible, and recycled paper for our packaging.”
I would say most of the socks I own right now are Bombas. They have so many options, they feel good and one pair of socks = one donated. They have donated 75 million socks so far. Great company and gooooood socks.
This the best brand for fun socks. A special sock for a heel or a boot or to add a little something to a sneaker. I’ve bought a few of these socks as gifts and people love them!
Honorable mention to these guys: Brooklinen socks because these are the socks you put on when you come home and put on your comfy clothes. LA Apparel has good classic socks. Ganni and Sandy Liang have some pop of color options.
4.HOME SWEET HOME STUFF
If you haven’t heard of Goodies, this is your lucky day. I stumbled into their store in Los Angeles and wowwwwwwwwwwww. Affordable?? Yes! Incredible quality? Yes! This place is so unique in terms of what they are doing and I feel like they are still under the radar-ish? Almost everything is around $25, I was honestly shocked when I looked at the prices. Even their marble pieces stay at that price.
Kanyon Shop is another great online retailer for affordable home decor. Everything is around $25 as well plus a few things in the $100 range. Kind of an elevated Urban Outfitters home vibe.
5.TELL THE WOVES I’M HOME
I’m going to let this review on Goodreads speak for me as I can’t quite put into words how this book left me feeling. I’ve recommended it on my Instagram before but it deserves its own post. I read it a long time ago but it’s next in my pile to re-read. It came out in 2012 and I remember after I finished it, I let the book rest on my chest and sobbed, sad and happy. The way it weaves in art and music so beautifully. It touches on loss, love and an unlikely friendship amidst the 1980’s AIDS epidemic.
“The ending of this novel is unforgettable. It will crack the hardest stone and melt the largest piece of ice and it will touch you in a way that you won’t soon forget. I loved it…I mean I really loved how the strings of this story were brought together and how they played out as a beautiful musical chord.” Source (contains some spoilers so don’t click if you don’t want to see!)
