January Notes + Finds
rage, what I'm reading/watching/listening to/screenshotting this month, warm outerwear finds, new brand discoveries that help with hormones + cramps/PMS + more
Hi guys, it’s been a few weeks. I am continuing to post this Substack as I need some outlet of creativity and routine while we are living in truly such a disturbing time in this country. I’m currently based in Minneapolis, a city that Trump and ICE have chosen to target with lies and violence. I am absolutely horrified at what I’ve seen, it’s everything you have seen on the news but worse. It is vile and atrocious and should be of deep concern for every American. They’ve had to put multiple schools on lockdown- please keep in mind that the Annunciation school shooting happened just a few months ago. They are dragging cooks from kitchens, teachers from schools, DRAGGING good hard working people into cars with absolutely no explanation and no idea where they are going. Kids aren’t going to school, restaurants are shutting down. They are sending hundreds more ICE “officers” into Minneapolis as we speak. I am disgusted with this administration that only causes divisiveness, fear and does EVERYTHING but make America better.
Minneapolis is an amazing city with an amazing community that shows up for each other. We have wonderful progressive programs (currently being cut by Trump) and I am so proud of how my friends and family are showing up right now.
Please consider donating any way you can, there are plenty of organizations still looking for in person donations or Venmo, you can take a look at the many ways to get involved here.
If you’re local to Minneapolis, I know Parc Shop is taking donations of the below items through Thursday.
Today, in order to mentally touch grass- I’m sharing some tiny things of joy like some cool new companies I discovered, what I’ve been screenshotting on my phone, books I’ve been reading, some things on my wishlist and a selection of coats and boots (all the warm things) from The RealReal + Depop. All of this with an undercurrent of pure rage!
I watched Train Dreams this week and it was beautiful.
I want to make every recipe that Ella Henry posted on her most recent Substack.
Rylan Studio is having a big sample sale. Love this mini buckle bag.
A screenshot from Eterne’s founder, Chloe Bartoli’s, Instagram. I have heard amazing things about Eterne sweatpants and I love this cashmere vest. Here’s one for less on Poshmark.
If you don’t know me IRL, I have had an anaphylaxis dairy allergy since I was born which means I cook a lot and anything to go is great for me when traveling etc. I found this company called LAV and they make to go salad dressings that sound delicious. They are all GF, DF and made with avocado or olive oil.
I finished two books last week- My Brilliant Friend and Heart the Lover (I read Heart the Lover in a day) and they are both exceptional. My Brilliant Friend ended on a very depressing note but explores so many important themes like class, gender, education, societal change etc. I am now reading Mark Ronson’s book, Night People (also Dua Lipa’s book club pick this month- the only “celeb” book club I really like) and eating it up. It captures the magic of the 90’s music scene- the clubs, the chaos, the creativity and the deep collective love of music. The audiobook is free on Spotify right now.
Really loved this Who What Wear feature with Elle Fanning. Love Szilveszter Mako’s work- this is very whimsical and fun.
Shawls are so chic, love this one I saw on Sabrina Szinay’s story. I have been keeping my eye on Issey Miyake scarves like this one on Grailed and this one on TRR. I did a Substack on shawls here.
Found two cool companies that are helping women with hormones, period pain, Endometriosis etc. This company called Jovia makes teas that support every phase of your cycle. All organic ingredients that support your menstrual, follicular and luteal phases. As someone who has Endometriosis and very painful periods, I must try this. Tea and heat packs save me during my cycle. They are sold out right now but one to watch!
Bioligica, another brand that is focusing on women’s health- this time on hormones at different life stages. I like that it’s a powder versus another pill/supplement as those can get overwhelming.
I scored this white Aflalo sweater on Poshmark for a steal and I love it sooooooo much. The fit is perfect and the cashmere is so soft. I got it in a size small and I actually had it on my Fall wishlist on ShopMy so I am telling myself I manifested it.
This piece by Argentinian artist, Laura Gonzalez del Valle.
As someone who worked for Nike, my favorite shoes I ever bought while there were my Nike Air Rifts (this is the only one they have in stock on their website right now), they are kind of a play on the Margiela Tabi’s and the barefoot toe shoes. I’d walk 10k-20k steps in them in LA. I just saw Skims x Nike is dropping this pair on January 26th and I love the chocolate brown.
If you have kids, I came across this podcast called Hello Earthling. “We inspire families to raise curious, grounded kids who grow up with a deep sense of belonging to the Earth.” I’m not a parent but with so much AI, screen time and constant stimuli (even for myself), I think teaching kids to care and love the earth is vital. It’s run by Bonnie Wright who played Ginny in the Harry Potter movies.
Speaking of podcasts, listening to anything with Robin Wall Kimmerer (author of Braiding Sweetgrass) grounds me. I recently listened to this one on The Nature Of, with host and editor-in-chief of Atmos, Willow Defebaugh.
This cute little bag by Tod’s from TRR (it’s $145).
I am about to pull the trigger on these Comme Si socks to pair with my new Margaux heels (currently on sale). I think the blue would very cute.
Kind of like the below but the heel version via Alex DiCapo Patel’s Instagram. I also think the green sock would be fun.
And now for my TRR + Depop round up (staying warm edition). Also, I posted a bunch of new items on my own Depop!
White leather jacket (size M), $47
Cream fur jacket (size 2/4), $157
Mohan black jacket with fur trim (size M), $158
Vintage leather jacket (size S), $63
Vintage brown shearling jacket (size M), $126
Unreal fur zebra coat (size S), $210

I would live inside the puffer from Entire Studios. They also have amazing sweatshirts. I feel like the Nanushka fleece would be fun for a Jackson Hole situation or skiing (aka staying warm in your chalet).

Warm shoes! Warm toes!

Thanks for reading and keep fighting the good fight! Two songs that have been bringing me joy and peace this month-
You Are All I See- Active Child
Cover Art is by Menoucher Yektai
My Depop link.
My ongoing Winter finds can be found here-
In case you missed it-

I wish I could re-read My Brilliant Friend for the first time! The 3rd is my favorite!
